Canada Summer Jobs Position: Finance Officer

Full-time, Contract, Onsite

$18.60 per hour, 35 hrs/week
Start date: May 4, 2026 for eight weeks

This position is thanks to support from Employment and Social Development Canada - Canada Summer Jobs program. Participants will also be encouraged to complete a questionnaire to report on their experience with the Canada Summer Jobs program. As per requirements of this grant, the successful candidate must:

  • Be between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment.
  • Be either Canadian, Permanent Resident or Refugee. International students and those who are here in Canada on a work, youth, or visitor visa/permit are not eligible for the program.
  • Have a valid SIN.
  • Be legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

What will you be doing as the Finance Officer?
The Finance Officer will focus on the financial administration of Pride Toronto’s Finance Department, creating best practices and standard reporting mechanisms.

Based on the nature of this role, the Finance Officer may need to work weekends and evenings outside of regular work hours to support events planned throughout May and June. 

All Pride Toronto Summer Students must be available to work Pride Festival Weekend (June 25-28). Pride Festival Weekend is full of performances, art and parades celebrating the 2SLGBTQI+ communities. No matter their role, all members of the Pride Toronto team support the Pride Festival through various operational and programming tasks that ensure the events are safe, fun, and memorable. 

Other responsibilities include:
Financial Administration & Documentation

  • Assist in organizing and maintaining financial records, including invoices, receipts, payment forms, vendor files, and electronic documentation.
  • Support accurate data entry into financial systems, spreadsheets, and accounting software.
  • Help prepare financial summaries, expense logs, and coding sheets for the Finance Manager.
  • Ensure proper filing and documentation of financial paperwork for easy retrieval and audit readiness.
Invoice Management & Tracking

  • Track incoming invoices from vendors, suppliers, and contractors participating in Pride Month.
  • Verify invoice details such as amounts, supporting documentation, dates, and coding information.
  • Assist in following up with vendors for missing or incorrect information.
  • Update invoice tracking sheets and ensure all data is accurate and current.
Reconciliation & Accuracy Checks

  • Assist with reconciling expense sheets, departmental budgets, and financial statements.
  • Help compare vendor invoices with purchase orders, contracts, or quotes to ensure accuracy.
  • Support month-end reconciliation tasks, including organizing documentation and ensuring records match payment logs.
Payment Processing Support

  • Prepare payment packages with correct coding, documentation, and approval signatures.
  • Assist in updating payment schedules and tracking completed and pending payments.
  • Support communication with team members regarding outstanding payments, missing documents, or required approvals.
Grant & Partner Reporting Support

  • Help compile required financial documentation for grant and sponsorship reports.
  • Assist with organizing receipts, invoices, and payment evidence needed for compliance.
  • Support the Finance Manager in preparing spending summaries, tracking eligible expenses, and updating reporting templates.
Budget & Spending Tracking

  • Help maintain internal spreadsheets that track festival expenses across departments.
  • Assist staff in understanding submission requirements for purchases, reimbursements, and coding.
  • Review basic expense submissions for completeness before forwarding them to the Finance Manager.
Audit Preparation & Record-Keeping

  • Assist in preparing organized financial folders for auditors and internal reviews.
  • Ensure documents are labeled correctly, organized chronologically, and categorized by funding source, department, or vendor.
  • Maintain confidentiality and accuracy when handling sensitive financial information.
Administrative & Team Support

  • Provide general administrative support to the Finance Manager, including preparing reports, logging information, and updating templates.
  • Assist with collecting financial forms from staff and volunteers during Pride Month.
  • Help coordinate communication between departments regarding financial processes, timelines, and documentation needs.
Festival Weekend Support (as applicable)

  • Assist with onsite financial coordination such as collecting receipts, tracking petty cash, and organizing documentation.
  • Support the operations and finance teams with real-time administrative needs during festival events.

What are we looking for?
Qualifications and skills required of the role.

  • Youth between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of employment
  • Minimum one year of customer service experience 
  • Highly organized and experienced with MS Office, G-Suite platform and other online tools
  • Strong communication skills
  • Commitment to environmental sustainability
  • Knowledge and understanding of the 2SLGBTQI+ community
  • Demonstrated administrative background
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required
  • This position requires you to work from our office Mondays to Fridays either between 9:00am-5:00pm. 
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed for meetings and events (lieu time provided to be provided for hours worked)
  • Ability to perform physical tasks, including occasional heavy lifting (up to 25 lbs), may be required to support on-site event production needs. The ideal candidate is hands-on and adaptable, willing to assist with logistical tasks to ensure seamless event execution

  • Exceptional strategic thinking abilities and experience in successfully overseeing complex projects 
  • Strong organizational skills including the ability to simultaneously manage multiple priorities 
  • Proven ability to work independently as well as in a group setting 
  • G-class drivers license
